Breast Unit Self Referrals

The Breast Outpatient Departments at Cambridge University Teaching Hospital and North West Anglia NHS Trusts have recently joined in partnership with NHS 111 online to enable patients to use the online App to make a self-referral to the Breast Unit for suspected cancer.

Who can use this service

The following patients are eligible for the self-referral service via the web address:

  • Non pregnant Females
  • Females breastfeeding
  • Aged 30 years and over and have an unexplained breast lump without pain
  • Aged 30 years and over with any of the following symptoms:
    • Nipple discharge
    • Nipple retraction/inversion
    • Other breast appearance skin changes of concern

Self-referrals would be made through NHS 111 online or the NHS app, aimed at speeding up diagnoses. Patients who meet the criteria will be offered direct self-referral to the specialist breast services at CUH if they live within our region. Those who do not meet it will be provided with advice and signposted to alternative services.

Any patients experiencing breast symptoms please go to NHS 111 online.
