Patients and the general public access community pharmacies for self-care advice and to purchase over-the-counter medicines. Community pharmacies also provide a consultation service for NHS 111 referrals.
It is estimated that 6% of all GP consultations, equivalent to 20.4 million appointments per year, could be safely transferred to a community pharmacy.
Granta Medical Practices are excited to be the first GP surgery in the area to participate in a new service that will direct patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional when booking an appointment, which may be a local community pharmacist either virtually or at their pharmacy.
Local pharmacists are highly trained and skilled clinicians experienced in treating minor illnesses, and may be able to help you quicker and more conveniently. This in turn frees up GPs to deal with patients with more complex health needs, and ensures that everyone gets treated at the right time, by the right healthcare professional.
We will be listening to patients about their experience of using this service and so are keen to hear your views. You will be advised how to give this feedback when you access the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service.
For further information speak to one of our reception teams or contact your local pharmacy.
