Child and adolescent mental health, up to 17 years old

If you or a young person you know is in mental health crisis, contact CPFT’s First Response Service by ringing NHS 111, and selecting option 2.

Did you know the education sector receives government funding to support young people’s mental health?  Many nurseries, pre-schools, schools and colleges have excellent pastoral care and access to support and counselling.  We always recommend you speak to those involved with your child / you through education (teachers, SENCO, key workers, etc.) and see what support can be arranged.  Don’t forget, we are also here if you need to book an appointment.

In this region child and adolescent NHS services are accessed via a referral hub called YOUnited.  Referrals can be made by any professional working with you/your young person.

Neurodevelopmental referrals

ADHD, autism, learning difficulties, and conduct disorders referrals are managed through the Child & Adolescent Mental Health team for secondary school-aged school children up to age 18 and by the community paediatricians for children in primary school and below. These referrals require information from the schools to be provided, so do try to start a conversation with the school in the first instance. If you/your young person is not already open to an Early Help Assessment this may need to be arranged with those involved – a health visitor, nursery, school, etc.
