Minor Injuries

Minor injury treatment

We are able to treat minor injuries, which could save you a trip to A&E. Please ring 0300 234 5555 for a telephone consultation. If the assessing clinician feels it is necessary to see you, they will invite you in for a face-to-face appointment.

We can help with:

  • Cuts and Lacerations
  • Bruises
  • Minor Dislocations
  • Foreign Bodies
  • Minor Head Injury
  • Minor Trauma to Body including hands / limbs / feet
  • Eye Injury
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Bites
  • Falls
  • Whiplash / minor RTA injuries

When to use A&E services

Examples of when it is right and appropriate to attend A&E without delay are:

  • Major injuries such as injuries from road traffic accidents
  • Falls from a considerable height
  • Major Head injuries
  • Collapse
  • Severe chest pain
  • Severe haemorrhage
  • Poisoning
  • Extensive burns
  • Severe breathing difficulty

When not to use A&E services

These conditions can generally be safely managed by your GP, Practice Nurse and in some cases the individual themselves:

  • Flu-like illnesses, coughs, earache, back ache
  • Minor breathlessness or wheezing
  • Abdominal pain (unless extreme or associated with collapse)
  • Urinary difficulties (unless completely unable to pass water)
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Social problems
  • Simple bites and stings
  • Vaginal bleeding (unless very heavy and associated with faintness)
  • Rashes (unless it appears like spontaneous bleeding under the skin or the person appears very unwell)
  • Backache
  • Emergency contraception
  • Dental problems (except major trauma)
