Asthma

Asthma is a long-term medical condition that affects the airways in your lungs. It can affect all ages and can be variable in nature and can be dangerous if not managed well. Sadly, four people die each day from asthma in the UK, two thirds of these are preventable.

Good News:

With regular review, asthma can be controlled with medication and lifestyle changes so people can lead a normal life.

What we do:

  • All children aged up to 16 years are invited for a face-to-face annual review.
  • All patients 16 years and over are sent a questionnaire to help us understand your symptoms. These are reviewed by the asthma nurses and patients are invited in if we haven’t seen you for a while or we are concerned about your asthma control.
  • Your asthma review includes a review of your inhaler technique and your medication regime to ensure you are on the best medication in line with current asthma guidelines.
  • All patients with asthma should have their own personal asthma plan.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

COPD is a long-term medical condition which causes progressive shortness of breath on exertion, chronic cough and mucus. The major cause of COPD is smoking.

Good News:

With regular review, medication & lifestyle changes we can improve your quality of life and reduce progression of this disease. Smoking cessation is key to treating this condition.

What we do:

All patients are invited for review annually and covers:

  • Blood pressure and pulse check, weight/BMI check
  • Screening blood tests for other health conditions
  • Smoking cessation support and assistance with lifestyle changes.
  • Review and optimisation of medication.
  • An individualised COPD plan.
