Granta Flies Through Their Flu’s

In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, having your flu vaccination is more important than ever. However, with Covid comes many challenges – and GP practices are having to think of innovative ways to deliver vaccines on a large scale.

Thanks to a fantastic community collaboration with Duxford Imperial War Museum, Granta Medical Practices held the county’s first ever drive-thru flu clinics on 3rd October and 17th October, vaccinating their patients without the need for patients to get out their cars.

“We have to think outside the box to continue to deliver safe health care to our patients during the pandemic,” says Dr James Morrow, Managing Partner. “Our main priority continues to be the safety of our patients, our staff and our community.  We have thousands of “at risk” patients that are eligible for free NHS flu vaccinations and we need to get them all vaccinated in a covid-safe manner.

The Granta flu team vaccinated more than 3,000 patients over the 2 days – and patient response has been amazing. Could this potentially be a delivery model for any future Covid vaccine? “Absolutely” says Dr Morrow “With the drive-thru set up being outdoors, with easy patient access and safe delivery of vaccines, it is definitely an option, going forward.”
