COVID-19 Fit to Fly Test

Are you travelling abroad and require proof that you are fit to fly? Some countries are now requiring a negative COVID-19 swab test and certificate to show that you are not currently infected with the virus.

When should I order my test?

We can test you for COVID-19 and issue a certificate in time for your flight to ensure that you arrive smoothly at your destination. You should keep up to date with the Government’s advice about travel and find out about your destination’s requirements, including any countries you are passing through if you have a flight transfer. Please contact your airline and relevant authorities if you are unsure about their requirements.

When do I get the results?

You will receive your results within 24 to 48 hours of your sample’s arrival at the lab. If you require your results and certificate within a certain time frame, please make this clear. Your certificate will be emailed directly to you.

How does this test work?

Once you have ordered your kit, you can come and pick it up from Granta Sawston  (CB22 3HU) or we can post it out to you. The kit contains everything you need to take your sample correctly. You can then drop your sample back to Granta Sawston and we will do the rest – it’s as simple as that!

Once your sample has been analysed you will receive an email containing your pathology report detailing your results, along with your signed and dated Fit to Fly certificate.

What are the current COVID-19 travel regulations?

At present, some airlines and destinations require testing and certificates to be issued within 48-96 hours of departure. Testing passengers prior to flying helps to reduce COVID-19 transmission during flight.

Travel regulations are subject to change. You should keep up to date with the Government’s advice about travel and find out about your destination’s requirements, including any countries you are passing through if you have a flight transfer. Please contact your airline and relevant authorities if you are unsure about their requirements.

How accurate is the test?

The PCR swab test will determine whether you have an active coronavirus infection, even in asymptomatic cases (when you have no symptoms). The test is highly accurate at 99.9% with the correct sampling technique. Please ensure that you follow the sample collection instructions carefully.

Please be aware that it is your own responsibility to check the latest guidance of your chosen airline and of your chosen destination.

How much does the test cost?

The test costs £82.50 per person.

What should I do when I receive my kit?

Please read the instructions carefully and follow the steps accordingly. You will be required to collect a sample from the back of your throat and inside your nostril with the same swab.
